This was a clean instal of Office on a new computer, and has worked fine (including these files) for about 6 months before this problem occurred last week. Purchased and deployed a new Windows Server at the beginning of the year to 'fix' permissions issues we were having with Apple's implementation of SMB (firm uses Windows-based CAD software). Anyway, I'm now having an issue where users connected to the Windows server will randomly lose the connection in Finder (it just won't show up anymore and they need to reconnect). I'm wondering what I can do to prevent this from happening? I'm using AD on the server, and just recently started joining these users to the domain through the Users & Groups>Login pane. Then I would be double checking the software setup. I am judging by your El Capitan statement, that exists one of two options: a) All your machine's are running El Capitan (props to you, not many places constantly run the latest version) or b) You have machines running older versions of OS X and have verified that these machines are still connected and working during these phases? Is there anything in the console thats shows up during these periods? Haven't tried pinging as I am usually notified way after-the-fact. We are in situation B and you are correct; I still have older machines (a few Mac Pros running 10.7.5) that don't experience this issue. I'll check console and find out more from users that are reporting this. Thanks for the comment! Update: a particular user running 10.11.6 says she needs to reconnect every morning. Update 2: apparently this particular user is having to reconnect to BOTH our OS X 10.11.6 AFP share and Windows server every morning. Outlook for mac search email attachments. We haven't had that sort of issue with the normal smb mounts although we have some issues with home directories on logon or after sleep. I created an automator workflow that auto reconnects. We have two sites and two different servers which made it a little complicated but I have it programed to find the right server. Anyways it kind of looks like this: Pause (10 seconds) Get Specified Server (this is where you put the SMB mount) connect to servers If you have a similar setup to us and ARD I can give you the more complicated version. Set the app in login items under users and groups and hopefully it solves your problem. How much data is on the Windows server? How many files? We have issues where if one user has calculate all sizes turned on for the network share it slows down everyone else as well.
